CPR
Canadian Pacific Railway continues to honour the significant role of Chinese railway labourers during railway construction more than 120 years ago. In a ceremony highlighted by a Lion Dance that symbolizes good luck and good blessings, Canadian Pacific Railway named a railway interchange in Kamloops in honour of Cheng Ging Butt, a railway labourer who represented the dedication of those who came forward to work on the CPR transcontinental line in the B.C. interior

Head Tax Payers
The Chinese head tax refers to a historical policy enacted by the Canadian government targeting Chinese immigrants. Between 1885 and 1923, Canada imposed a series of head taxes on Chinese immigrants arriving in the country. The purpose of these taxes was to discourage Chinese immigration and limit the number of Chinese immigrants entering Canada.

1884 Dozens of Chinese Freemason members resided in Kamloops.
1894 August31. The first Chinese Freemasons New Branch started the location on West Victoria Street.
In 1910 Chinese Freemasons had the first conference in Kamloops.
1911 Chinese Freemasons built the first new lodge in Kamloops on West Victoria Street.

Ching Ming
Ch’ing Ming – Spring Festival of Departed Souls, Grave-Sweeping Day, observed on
April – usually the third moon of the new year.
The date is indicated on the Chinese calendar with the two characters: Ching, meaning pure or clean, and Ming, meaning brightness. Combined together, Ching Ming means clean and just.

The Kamloops Chinese Cultural Association was formed by the implicit popular demand by the local Chinese and the Multicultural Society for ethnic representation especially in Folkfest.
The Canadian Chinese began to organize K.C.C.A. in the early part of March 1977 and was officially formed May lst.1977.
